How to Prepare for a New Roof Installation

Preparing for a New Roof Installation

  • When shingles are delivered to your home, please check the color and the type of material.  Notify us immediately if the color or type is not what you specified.
  • Notify your mortgage and insurance company the day your roofing job begins, this will expedite your payment process.
  • Our team will need access to your driveway to load shingles and clean up.  Please park your vehicles away from the driveway.
  • Advise your children not to enter the work area and ensure your family pets are safe from this work zone.
  • Our team will hand nail the entire new roofing products and this is a very noisy process, please inform your family members.  Your inside pets may be uncomfortable with the process and want to visit a friend's home.
  • You may want to alert your neighbors that your family will be having your new roof installed, as this process may be heard at their home too.

Preparing INSIDE Your Home

  • Remove all loose items from wall shelves and walls; pictures, plates & figurines.  Hammering may cause vibrations that will shake these items off the shelves and walls.
  • Cover any items in the attic that you do not want to have dust fall from the undersides of the decking.  If we have to replace any damaged decking sheets wood chips could also fall in the attic area.
  • Check for hidden lines such as telephone, electrical and air conditioning lines etc. in the attic attached to ceiling decking that may be punctured during a roofing installation project.  This is the responsibility of the homeowner to notify us for precaution.

Preparing OUTSIDE Your Home

  • Remove all items from around the house for the removal process of the old roofing debris; patio furniture, potted plants, gardening equipment such as lawn mowers, garden hoses, lawn ornaments.  We try to protect your landscaping with tarps.
  • Please check your outside receptacles to make sure they are operating correctly. Occasionally we will use power tools to cut new decking sheets for wood replacement.
  • After the project is complete (approximately 10,000) nails that have fallen from the old roof removal will be picked up with a magnetic roller.  We make every effort to pick up all nails.  Please be advised that a few nails (hidden in grass and shrubbery) may remain.
